LIRA UNI-REC was established in response to the growing volume of research at Lira University in Health Sciences, Computing, Information Science, and in other Departments. Lira University has an increasing number of accredited postgraduate programmes and masters and doctoral programmes requiring ethical approvals. Additionally, the growing expertise of the staff in research has resulted in significant increases in their research activities. By gaining accreditation, the LIRAUNI-REC will meet the research needs of the entire country, Northern region and the LIRA UNI community itself. Duties &amp; Responsibilities Members of REC Downloads Contact Info Duties &amp; Responsibilities of the Office of REC 1. Reviewing Research Proposals for Ethical Compliance. The REC examines all research proposals involving human participants, animals, or sensitive data to ensure they meet ethical standards before approval is granted. 2. Protecting the Rights and Welfare of Research Participants. The committee ensures that participants are treated fairly, respectfully, and safely, with clear protection against harm, coercion, or exploitation. 3. Ensuring Informed Consent Procedures Are Adequate. The REC checks that researchers provide clear, understandable consent forms and processes that allow participants to voluntarily agree to be part of the study. 4. Assessing Risks vs. Benefits of Research. The committee evaluates whether the potential benefits of a study outweigh the risks and whether researchers have adequate risk-mitigation measures in place. 5. Monitoring Approved Research Projects. REC oversees ongoing research to ensure that investigators adhere to approved protocols, ethical guidelines, and reporting obligations. 6. Reviewing Amendments to Previously Approved Studies. Any changes to a study\u2014such as methodology, participant recruitment, or consent procedures\u2014must be reviewed and approved by the REC.
